The Health Services Management Centre are delighted to be attending NHS Confederation Annual Conference and Exhibition, 5 – 7 June 2013. This year’s conference is being held at the Liverpool ACC and HSMC have a stand (H58) all week in the exhibition hall.
Please do come and say hello to us during the conference week. We’ll be talking about our current research work, our postgraduate programmes and short courses; please do stop by at Stand H58 to find out the different ways in which you can work with HSMC.
The following members of HSMC academic staff will be on hand during the week on our stand:
Professor Edward Peck is Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Head of College of Social Sciences. He also provides academic leadership to a range of corporate initiatives which relate to the civic engagement of the University, such as the University Training School and Public Services Academy, and has been responsible for the establishment of the University's flagship international development in the Guangzhou Platform. Before taking up his current role, Professor Peck was previously Director of the Health Services Management Centre, 2002 – 2006.
Professor Jon Glasby
Jon Glasby is a qualified social worker by background and Director of the University of Birmingham’s Health Services Management Centre. Specialising in joint work between health and social care, Jon is involved in regular policy analysis and advice. He is the author of a series of leading textbooks on health and social services, sits on the advisory board of The Policy Press, and is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Integrated Care. He is currently a Non-Executive Director of the Birmingham Children’s Hospital and, from 2003 to 2009, was the Secretary of State's representative on the board of the UK Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE)
Hilary Brown is a Fellow at the Health Services Management Centre, University of Birmingham. She joined the department in August 2008 following a ten year career in the NHS and a second career in journalism and PR in the private sector. Hilary is involved in a range of teaching activities including taking a lead role for student welfare and international students within the department. She is has also been a Knowledge Transfer Partnership academic supervisor.
Helen Dickinson is a Senior Lecturer in Health Care Policy and Management at HSMC and Director of the Public Service Academy. Helen heads the health and social care partnerships programme at HSMC and is Director of the MSc in Managing Integration for Health and Wellbeing. Helen is also Co-Editor of the Journal of Integrated Care.
Yvonne Sawbridge Joined HSMC after a varied career in NHS, latterly as a Director in a PCT. She is also Co- Vice Chair of the NHS Alliance- a national organisation linking primary care clinicians, managers and organisations together. She is a founding member of their “Nurses in Commissioning” network. A Registered General Nurse & Health Visitor by profession, Yvonne has spent much of her career focusing on improving services for patients. She has worked as both a provider and commissioner and led service redesign projects such as IV Therapy in the community, and a QIPP nursing home project to improve resident’s nutritional status & prevent pressure ulcers.
Ross Millar is a Lecturer at HSMC. He joined in 2008 after completing his doctoral research studying service improvement tools and techniques at the University of Manchester. Since arriving, his research interests have reflected being involved in a variety of projects analysing the reform of health and social care. These include understanding the nature and impact of ‘quasi’ market reform, the promotion of social enterprise forms of service provision and the study of hospital governance, particularly related to quality and safety.
Deborah Davidson is a Senior Fellow, Organisational Development (OD) and Leadership at the Health Services Management Centre. Specialising in OD and developmental evaluations in the public sector, Deborah is involved in working alongside a culturally diverse range of individuals, groups, teams, and inter-agency systems to realise citizen and service user outcomes. Deborah leads HSMC’s consultancy services and Leadership and Organisational Development work stream and is also a member of HSMC’s Patient and Public Experience (PEPI) work stream.
