Citizen involvement in health and social care decision making eventOn June 4th leaders from across the NHS and Local Government attended an HSMC/Public Service Academy (PSA) event focussing on the challenges of involving citizens in a time of public sector austerity. Attendees heard presentations from Dr Marion Danis from the National Institutes of Health at the US Department of Health and Human Services, Professor Derek Bolton from Citizens UK and Mr Saidul Haque from Birmingham Citizens.

The post-presentation discussion focussed on the challenges posed by the current climate, and a series of good practice principles and examples were identified and shared.

Organisers of the event – including Iestyn Williams (HSMC), Helen Dickinson (PSA) and Catherine Durose (Institute for Local Government Studies) – are writing up the main themes of the day and these will be available for sharing soon.
