Orchestrating the possible for integrated care
On 1 April 2013 health and wellbeing boards moved out of the shadows to formally take on responsibility for improving health and wellbeing and reducing health inequalities in their areas. They face many challenges, not least reductions in local authority budgets, increasing demands due to an ageing population, the restructuring of the NHS, and a challenging public health agenda.
Based on observations and experience of working with health and wellbeing boards, this publication, written by Carol Ward, Catherine Mangan and Robin Miller, addresses four key questions to health and wellbeing boards to ensure that they orchestrate system change and bring about integrated care.
