Care closer to home - a fairytale?

As a staff nurse in hospital many years ago, during a particularly trying shift, I heard myself say to a relative who was late "well it isn't actually visiting time - but alright then" and immediately thought, "who do you think you are to stop people visiting their loved ones? - what's the matter with you?"

Addressing delays in discharge – a case of integrated care in action?

Description
A report by the National Audit Office (NAO) published earlier this year estimated that delays in discharging medically fit patients from hospital were costing £820m a year. In spite of many organisations across the country introducing various measures to reduce delays in discharges, the NAO reports that the number of delays has risen by a third in the past two years equating to more than 1.1 million days.

What clinicians need to know about cancer survivors' approaches to self-management

Description
With more people surviving cancer than ever before we need to focus on how to support cancer survivors to live well post-cancer. For some cancer survivors, the chronic nature of some of the side-effects from cancer and its treatment can be debilitating and exhausting, resulting in assaults to their physical, psychological and emotional health and wellbeing.
