Helen joined HSMC in 2005 to take up a PhD studentship examining health and social care collaboration and service user outcomes. Since this time Helen has been heavily involved in research projects around health and social care collaboration, leadership and priority setting and decision making, as well as being HSMC’s Director of Academic Programmes (2009-2012) and heading the Third Sector Research Centre’s health and social care research programme (2008-2012). Helen now splits her time between HSMC and a wider college role heading up the Public Service Academy.

Current and previous projects

Helen has just finished two major pieces of research on the topics of joint commissioning and medical leadership which were both funded by the NIHR’s HS&DR programme. Additionally, through the Public Service Academy Helen is heading projects around the 21st century public servant, social inclusion, health and wellbeing and localisation in conjunction with Birmingham City Council and other key partners.
