Kelly is a Lecturer in Social Policy based in the Department of Social Policy and Social Work. She is the co-ordinator for the Postgraduate Policy into Practice programme. Her main research interests include social enterprise in health and social care and retirement migration.

Kelly joinedthe Department in August 2013 as a Lecturer in Social Policy. She had previously worked as Lecturer in Socioloy at the University of Northampton, before which she worked as a Research Fellow for the Health Services Management Centre, University of Birmingham.


Kelly’s main research interest lies in the area of social enterprise and health and social care. She is currently working on an ESRC funded project on micro-enterprise in social care.  She is also undertaking research on social enterprise spin outs, focusing in particular on Right to Request/Right to Provide policy, public sector mutuals and social impact measurement. Her other research interests are old age vulnerability and retirement migration. Her research has looked at the experiences of older British people living in Spain, as well as those who return from Spain. Her research has also used a participatory approach by including vulnerable groups as co-researchers to design, implement and disseminate research.
