The School of Sport and Exercise Sciences is already recognised as a world leader in the sciences of sport, exercise, health and rehabilitation, and the addition of Physiotherapy will add significantly to our expertise in rehabilitation. Reflecting our commitment to growing this area of work, the School is making four senior appointments in the area of physiotherapy/rehabilitation, including a new Professor.

To support this change, the University has allocated funds to make essential adaptations to the School’s state-of-the-art facilities, and these will begin over the summer. Alongside this, the School has made a successful bid to the alumni Circles of Influence Fund to make improvements to the building’s atrium. This will include enhanced social spaces and the addition of computer clusters and improved refreshment facilities.

Head of School, Professor Kathy Armour, said: “The arrival of Physiotherapy will add to our School’s expertise and allow us to offer unique new opportunities to all of our students. This is an exciting time for the School and we look forward to working together to deliver our mission: to serve society through research and teaching on effective engagement in all forms of physical activity. Our interests span a range of movement settings including: elite sport performance, exercise through the life course for personal/social health and wellbeing, education for young people, and rehabilitation from illness or injury”.
