Kevin Campbell, Applied Golf Management Studies 2009

Current role

Managing Director (Kevin Campbell Golf Limited)/Head Professional - Greenock Golf Club (March 2009)

I got to know some fantastic people, and made contacts for the future.

Career experiences since graduating

After graduating I spent 6 months (May-November) working at Balmore Golf Club as a Qualified Professional, coaching all abilities and age ranges. During this time I also set up a website, and helped the coaching area of the club to thrive. Alongside coaching I also worked part-time in the Pro-Shop selling golf equipment, this was good experience as I was given a reasonable amount of responsibility for ordering and running the shop.

What is the best thing about what you are doing now?

Running my own business and the excitement of learning something new every day

What was the best thing about your time as an AGMS student?

Learning from lecturers who are leaders in their field, and meeting likeminded people who want to make a difference in the golf industry.

In what way did living and studying in Birmingham live up to your expectations?

Gaining independence and enjoying all things to do with student life. I got to know some fantastic people, and made contacts for the future. Studying at one of the most prestigious universities was a great experience and I learned a lot during my time there.

How did you grow as a person by coming to University?

Did it change your life in any way? I became more focused about what I wanted to do, and realised what it takes to become a top golf professional as well as a top coach. I also matured into a more independent and harder working person.

What advice would you give to current students

Always give things your best shot as you only get one shot at life. Your future is what you make it. Be ambitious. If you make a promise, keep it.
