Training Executive for Golf Coaching for the Professional Golfers' Association
University is a fantastic experience I would recommend to anyone
Since graduating from the University of Birmingham I joined the Belfry as a full time teaching professional. During this time I experienced working with county teams and a number of elite players, including working with challenge tour and ladies European tour golf professionals. During this time I wanted to further my knowledge in physiotherapy and golf biomechanics and subsequently visited world leaders in these fields in Australia over the next few years. In doing so I formed great working relationships with world renowned golf physiotherapist Ramsay McMaster and biomechanics expert Ryan Lumsden.
Whilst teaching I continued to observe elite coaches and furthered my PGA status through CPD courses such as Titleist Performance Institute and the Golfing Machine. Both of which have been instrumental in the way I teach golf and my understanding of golf performance.
What is the best thing about what you are doing now?
Working for the PGA as an executive for golf coaching provides extraordinary opportunities to meet leaders in the golf industry from a number of fields; opportunities which do not exist in day to day golf coaching.
What were your expectations and experiences of Birmingham?
Birmingham is a fantastic city with great places to visit and nightlife. Birmingham by far exceeded any expectations I had and subsequently I still live and work in Birmingham today.
What was the best thing about being an AGMS student?
Meeting a wide range of people with different interests and experiencing university life.
How did you grow as a person by coming to University? Did it change your life in any way?
University made me a more rounded person and gave me experiences and opportunities which otherwise I would not have had. I also met some of my best friends at university.
Advice for current students
I would try to visit any top teaching professionals or experts in the field of golf you are interested in. I have found that experts in their fields are open individuals who much very much enjoy discussing and sharing information with people.
All round university is a fantastic experience I would recommend to anyone.
