About

Bernard Langford joined Birmingham Business School in September 2011 having previously worked as a Senior Lecturer for a number of years at Birmingham City University. His association with the University of Birmingham is long-standing being engaged as a part time visiting lecturer on the MSc and BA Accountancy and Finance (Year 3) programmes, and more recently with the BSc Management course, both in the UK and Singapore.  His specialist area is management accounting.

Bernard has a wealth of lecturing experience covering, principally, accountancy programmes and also involvement on a variety of non-financial courses; Procurement, Marketing, Human Resources, Transport and Management.

Biography

After spending fifteen years in industry his practical experience came from a range of firms and encompassed a variety of management roles within the production services and accounting fields.  This industrial background combined with being a professionally qualified management accountant has enabled him to add value in the field of higher education.

As a qualified teacher he brings expertise in teaching, administration, knowledge transfer and practical accounting.  With many years full-time lecturing experience in higher education, both in the UK and overseas, Bernard has taught at all levels including undergraduate, postgraduate, professional (ACCA& CIMA), and post experience.  In addition, he has led, as Course Director, ACCA, CIMA and BA (Hons) Accountancy courses, revalidation, quality processes, and participated on Academic Monitoring Committees, Faculty Boards, C.V.E. Working Party etc.

Teaching

His current teaching responsibilities relate to the Postgraduate module Management Accounting on the MSc Accounting and Finance programme; BA Accounting and Finance second year UG module Management Accounting, and the BSc Management second year UG module Business Accounting.

Other activities

In addition to his academic role he has represented the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants as a Learning Through Partnership Quality Assessor, Member of the Study Materials Working Party, and as the President of the Birmingham Branch of CIMA (2003-4).
