Dr Eduard Shantsila has graduated from a 6-year course in Grodno State Medical Institute (Belarus) with distinction in 1996. From 1996 to 1998 he obtained his initial clinical experience during a 2-year clinical internship programme in Grodno State Medical Institute. From 1998 to 2008 he worked in the Republican Research and Practical Centre ‘Cardiology’ in Minsk (Belarus), where he progressed through the posts of junior researcher to senior researcher with the 3-last year working as a head of Department of cardiology. In 2002 he obtained his first research degree of Candidate of Medical Sciences in Cardiology (comparable to British PhD standard). In 2008 he came to Birmingham to start Research Fellowship from the Heart Failure Association of the European Society of Cardiology, which followed by completion of PhD programme in 2012 (University of Birmingham). He currently continues his research and clinical work in Centre for Cardiovascular Sciences and Department in Cardiology in City Hospital (Birmingham) under lead by Professor Gregory Lip.

Postgraduate supervision

Supervisor of 4 MD and PhD students investigating implication of functional monocyte subsets in patients with myocardial infarction, heart failure, coronary artery disease and carotid intra-plaque angiogenesis.
