Gillians project aims to correct the site-specific mutation in alpha1-antitrypsin (A1AT) deficiency genes, in order to restore normal A1AT function. This involves working with patient material and makes use of her expertise in cell culture, molecular biology techniques, protein and gene analysis as well as techniques of cloning. Gillian is currently in the process of making a mouse model of A1ATD that can be used for a variety of studies including therapeutic interventions.
