David has been responsible for dental student medicine teaching as well as ward based and ARICM modules.

Research Activity

David runs the lung injury and fibrosis treatment (LIFT) reseach programme. His research centres around inflammatory lung diseases especially acute lung injury, interstitial lung disease and recently COPD. He has a basic science interest in the role of growth factors e.g. VEGF in lung epithelial repair as well as the relationship between infection and inflammation in acute lung injury / ILD. He has clinical trials experience in asthma, COPD, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and acute lung injury. He is a steering group member for NIHR BALTI-prevention and ASEPSIS. He currently has funding from the Wellcome Trust, and the Intensive care society.

  • Currently supervise 2 PHD students and 2 MD students.
  • Birmingham Respiratory Lecturer Programme Director.
  • Interstitial Lung Disease lead for University Hospital NHS Trust.
