Mingming Du is a PhD student in an interdiscipline of Engineering and Biomedicine. Her past and current research is mainly focused on the therapeutic benefit of Stem Cells, particularly their immigration behavior into injured tissues concerning the mechanical obstacles when circulating in vivo. Furthermore, the utilization of microfluidic technique in cell sorting is another research topic of her.

Qualifications

  • MSc in Medicine, Shanghai Jiaotong University, China, 2013
  • BSc in Biological Engineering, Harbin Institute of Technology, China, 2010

Biography

Mingming Du qualified with a BSc in Biological Engineering from Harbin Institute of Technology in 2010. She went on to study for a MSc in Pharmacy from Shanghai Jiaotong University in 2012. Apart from the University experience, she spent one year working in a company doing stem cell separation, cryopreservation and relevant testing before coming to the University of Birmingham in 2013. The education background gave her a lot of integrated practice in Engineering and Medicine research, techniques and way of thinking obtained during this period helped her adapt to the new project quickly. From the current PhD study, she got deeper understanding and experimental skills in cells and fluid mechanics.

Research

Mechanical characterization of Stem Cells with Micromanipulation and AFM and cell sorting based on deformability variation.
