Stefan is registered as a dentist in Romania, The Netherlands and The United Kingdom. His clinical interests are in periodontology and he started his PhD at the University of Birmingham in 2013, focusing on the relationships between periodontitis and rheumatoid arthritis.

He holds honorary contracts with Birmingham Dental Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

PhD Title: Associations between periodontitis/tooth loss and rheumatoid arthritis disease markers.

Supervisors: Prof. Dr. Thomas Dietrich (Oral Surgery) Prof. Dr. Iain Chapple (Periodontology), Dr. Paola de Pablo (Rheumatoloy).

Stefan graduated dentistry at the University of Oradea, Romania in 2010. Following his graduation, he continued his studies at Maastricht University in The Netherlands with a master in public health where he focused on quantitative and qualitative research methods and health policies. Following his master degree, he had an internship with Health Bureau Ltd. and worked on a project on oral health policies in Cape Verde.

Currently Stefan is undertaking his PhD about the relationships between periodontitis and rheumatoid arthritis using an observational study and a randomized controlled trial with patients from Birmingham as well as a national cohort study from Germany.
