About

I am a tutor in Spanish for the Department of Modern Languages since September 2001. I previously worked in the Department of Development Administration in the School of Public Policy in a European Commission project and in European Marketing and Sales.

Qualifications

BA in Spanish Studies and French

PGCE in Higher Education

MITI (Member of the Institute of Translators and Interpreters). Postgraduate Certificate in Technical Translation, City University, London and courses in Interpreting.

PG Certificates in Marketing and Principles of Law relating to Overseas Trade, Institute of Export.

Professional Development Residential Courses in Spain organized by the British Council, Comenius projects, focusing on “excellence in teaching”.

Teaching

I am a qualified teacher holding a certificate in teaching Adults in Higher Education. I have taught Spanish at the Universities of Birmingham and Aston and as a Visiting lecturer at the Universities of Buckingham and Wolverhampton. At the University of Wolverhampton I have been involved in various European Union projects teaching Spanish to UK Business leaders and medical staff.

In my role as a language tutor/module convenor in Spanish, I have the responsibility for designing and delivering Spanish module programmes and assessing students. At the Department of Modern Languages I have taught undergraduates and open access courses and designed the corresponding assessments and final year exams. This year I teach:

Undergraduates:

  • Spanish level 1 (Year 1)
  • Spanish level 2/module convenor (Year 2)
  • Spanish level 4/module convenor. (Final year)
  • Tandem programme

Open Access:

  • Spanish level 1
  • Spanish level 2/module convenor
  • Spanish Level 4 - teaching/module convenor.

Other activities

I have worked as a translator and interpreter for the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, the National Exhibition Centre, the University of Birmingham, UK and Spanish agencies and European firms. I have also taught Spanish at the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce and in industry.
