About

Vahid Ravaghi is a Lecturer in Dental Public Health at the University of Birmingham School of Dentistry. He teaches modules of Public Health and Epidemiology to both undergraduate and postgraduate students. 

His research interests focused on socioeconomic inequalities in oral health and oral health care. He also takes part in the training and data collection for the UK Child Dental Health Survey.

Biography

Vahid Ravaghi qualified from Shahid Beheshti School of Dentistry in Iran in 2003. He then worked as a general dental practitioner for two years. His journey toward becoming an academic in the field of public health started when he took up the MSc in ‘Dental Public Health’. He then completed his PhD thesis on ‘Health Inequalities’ at the Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, UK. In 2010, he was offered a postdoctoral fellowship at the Faculty of Dentistry, McGill University, Canada. He joined the unit of Oral Health and Society at McGill and was part of research team investigating oral health inequalities in Canada.

In 2013, he joined the University of Birmingham School of Dentistry as a Lecturer in Dental Public Health. Since then he has been involved in a variety of activities such as teaching undergraduate dental, dental hygiene and therapy as well as postgraduate students in the Public Health program. Dr Ravaghi also enthusiastically continues his research investigating inequalities in oral health.

Research

Dr Ravaghi investigates inequalities in oral health mainly by analysing the data from the national health surveys (i.e. the UK Adult Dental Health and the Canadian Health Measures Survey).
