About

Alison joined the School of Education in January 2010. She is a lecturer on the Primary PG Dip Ed (PGCE Advanced) course. She coordinates and teaches the science and ICT modules on the General Primary and Early Years Initial Teacher Education programmes.  Alison has a very strong background in early education, having taught for many years in a number of Primary schools across the West Midlands area. As well a holding various senior management positions within schools, Alison also worked for the local education authority, providing specialst ICT support for teachers.

Qualifications

  • Bsc Psychology, University of Manchester
  • PGCE, Manchester Metropolitan University
  • MEd IT in Education (distinction), University of Birmingham
  • Fellow of Higher Education Academy (HEA)

Teaching

Alison's main teaching responsibilities are:

  • Teaching science on the General Primary and Early Years PG Dip Ed courses
  • Teaching ICT on the General Primary and Early Years PG Dip Ed courses

Postgraduate supervision

Alison supervises students undertaking the M.Ed in teaching Studies

Research

Alison's particular research interests are:

  • ICT in primary schools
  • Interactive Whiteboard technology in primary schools
  • iPads in education
  • Teaching abstract scientific concepts, such as the solar system, in primary schools
