Alison is the programme lead on the PG Dip Ed Primary/ Early Years ITE course and is responsible for the day to day running of the university and school based training programe. She also heads up the science and computing modules on the programme.

Alison joined the School of Education in January 2010.   She has a very strong background in early education, having taught for many years in a number of Primary schools across the West Midlands area. As well a holding various senior management positions within schools, Alison also worked for the local education authority, providing specialst ICT support for teachers.

  • Bsc Psychology, University of Manchester
  • PGCE, Manchester Metropolitan University
  • MEd IT in Education (distinction), University of Birmingham
  • Senior Fellow of Higher Education Academy (HEA)

Teaching

Alison’s main teaching responsibilities are:

  • Teaching science on the General Primary, Early Years, School Direct and Specialist Mathematics ITE programmes
  • Teaching Technology Enhanced Learning and computing on the General Primary, Early Years, School Direct and Specialist Mathematics ITE programmes

Postgraduate supervision

Alison supervises students undertaking  MA in Teaching Studies

Research

Alison's particular research interests are:

  • Technology Enhanced Learning in primary school settings (particularly iPad and Interactive Whiteboard technologies)
  • The use of school dogs in animal assisted activity (AAA) and animal assisted therapy (AAT) and animal assisted learning (AAL)
  • Primary school science
