Wouter has an interdisciplinary background. He gained a degree in International Business Communication, but also has a MA in Philosophy, both from the Radboud University Nijmegen, the Netherlands. His doctoral thesis was called ‘Character education’, and he investigated what a neo-Aristotelian approach can make clear about the philosophy, psychology and education of virtue. Besides his work at the Jubilee Centre for Character and Values, Wouter holds a part time post as Associate Professor of Professional Ethics of Teachers at Fontys University of Applied Sciences, in the Netherlands. Wouter works on topics in the philosophy of education, and is particularly interested in the use of virtue ethics for understanding children’s moral education and teachers’ professional ethics.

2013 – present: Research fellow at the project ‘Virtue Education in British Schools’ , designed to investigate the place of character and virtue education in British schools.

2012- present: Leading a practice-based research group of teacher trainers about professional ethics, Fontys University of Applied Sciences, the Netherlands.

2007 – 2012: PhD project in Philosophy on an Aristotelian approach to moral education. .
