Associate Professor Hao Deng has long had an interest in architectural theory in close combination with the practice of urban design. His academic research mainly focuses on architectural design, urban morphological theory, and the sociology of architectural technology. He is in charge of an undergraduate architectural course and a new graduate course on ‘Technical values of the architect’. In respect of design practice, Professor Deng has chaired and participated in more than 40 planning and architectural design projects, especially focusing on important public buildings together with a number of construction engineering designs.

He has received Excellent Design Awards from the Chinese National and Provincial Ministries. Between September 2009 and September 2010, he had a visiting position in the Department of Geography, Earth and Environmental Science in the University of Birmingham, where he focused on the research of the Muratorian School.
