Karen holds a degree in Communication Processes. She joined the Department of Primary Care and General Practice at the University of Birmingham in September 2001. Karen is the first point of contact with the ISU if you have a training need to discuss or would like to book some role players. As well as co-ordinating the role play team Karen is also involved with recruitment, training and facilitating work.
Karen is a member of ASPE (Association of Standardised Patient Educators) and is past Chair of the International Committee. Karen is a member of the Certification Committee for the Society for Simulation in Healthcare.
Karen has been one of the leads in Birmingham setting up the Clinical Skills Programme for the medical and PA students - these include ACEs (Associate Clinical Educators), life models and Gynaecological Teaching Associates (GTAs).
