After training in Anaesthesia in Nottingham and Birmingham, worked as a Consultant Anaesthetist at the City Hospital (nee Dudley Road Hospital ) for 23 years till retirement from the NHS in 2006
Clinical interests included The difficult airway and regional anaesthesia.
Roger was also the College Tutor and was Lead Clinician for Aneasthesia at the City Hospital
