Mrs Razia Meer-Baloch is responsible for the development and management of postgraduate modules and programmes, and professional development courses for staff involved in clinical trials at all levels. She oversees and plans the training to meet the needs of staff within the unit, in addition to identifying further opportunities to develop taught postgraduate programmes.

Biography

Razia qualified as a General Nurse in 1992 and worked within the surgical unit at Selly Oak Hospital Birmingham, whilst studying for a B.S.c. in Health Sciences at Coventry University. She was appointed as the Midlands Co-ordinator for the UK Small Aneurysm Trial at Leicester University and went on to design, implement and manage a community screening programme to identify patients with abdominal aortic aneurysm. Razia moved from the NHS into the commercial sector, working as a Clinical Trials Monitor for Clinpharm on secondment to Glaxo Wellcome. In 2010, she was appointed as the Quality Assurance Manager in the Primary Care Clinical Trials Unit, University of Birmingham. Within this role, she was responsible for designing and implementing a Quality Management System; programme of training, monitoring and audit. In 2016 with the merge of the 2 University of Birmingham Trials Units, Razia was appointed to lead on the Quality Assurance function for the newly merged unit. This encompassed responsibility for the change management of Quality Assurance processes, and leading the team to ensure that the portfolio of trials were conducted in compliance with increasingly stringent research governance regulations. In September 2017, Razia was appointed as the Training and Education Lead for Clinical Trials for the Birmingham Clinical Trials Unit. Within this role, Razia is responsible for developing and managing postgraduate modules and programmes and professional development courses for staff involved in clinical trials. Razia facilitates the NIHR national GCP programme and in 2011 completed the certificate in Good Clinical Practice, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine.
