About

Yemisi Takwoingi is a Research Fellow in Medical Statistics in the UK Support Unit for Cochrane Systematic Reviews of Diagnostic Test Accuracy located within Public Health, Epidemiology and Biostatistics.

Yemisi collaborates on methodological and applied research projects. Her research interest is primarily in diagnostic test evaluation and systematic review methodology, especially comparative meta-analyses of diagnostic test accuracy studies.

Yemisi is a co-convenor for the Cochrane Screening and Diagnostic Test Methods Group, and she has editorial roles within two Cochrane review groups.

Biography

Yemisi Takwoingi’s background is in veterinary medicine, computer/statistical programming and statistics. She qualified in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Maiduguri, Nigeria in 1994. She later completed an MSc in Information Technology with distinction at the University of Paisley (2001) and an MSc with distinction at the University of Leicester (2007).

Yemisi joined the University of Birmingham in March 2001 as an analyst programmer in the Birmingham Clinical Trials Unit (BCTU). In 2008, she moved to the Test Evaluation Group located within Public Health, Epidemiology and Biostatistics. As part of her role, she provides statistical support for the UK Support Unit for Cochrane Diagnostic Test Accuracy Reviews based within the group. In 2011 she was awarded an NIHR Doctoral Research Fellowship which has enabled her to undertake a PhD in methods of meta-analysis for comparing the accuracy of two or more tests. 

Yemisi participates in teaching undergraduate medical students and Master’s level Public Health students.

Research

Since 2008 Yemisi has worked mainly on methods for systematic reviews of diagnostic test accuracy studies. This includes projects related to the validity of methods for meta-analysis when few studies are available, and the validity of indirect comparisons of tests. She is also involved in primary studies evaluating medical tests, and other health research projects.
