Dr Mitchell holds a doctorate from Birmingham Law School, graduating in 2016. Her research traverses the fields of labour and family law, focusing upon the reconciliation of paid work and caring responsibilities.

Dr Mitchell graduated from the University of East Anglia in 2009 with a LLB in Law and European Legal Studies and went on to complete a LLM in Family Law, with a thesis on UK maternity and paternity rights. She then worked for a year in her hometown as a paralegal in a family law firm. In 2011, she came to Birmingham Law School as a Postgraduate Teaching Assistant and PhD candidate under the supervision of Dr Astrid Sanders and Professor Marie Fox, graduating in 2016. Her current research is focused on the reconciliation of caring work and paid work, with particular emphasis on how carers could be better accommodated within the workplace.
