Biography
Gemma Mitchell graduated from the University of East Anglia in 2009 with a LLB in Law and European Legal Studies and went on to complete a LLM in Family Law, with a thesis on maternity and paternity rights in England. She then worked for a year in her hometown as a paralegal in a family law firm. In 2011, she came to Birmingham Law School as a Postgraduate Teaching Assistant and PhD candidate under the supervision of Dr Astrid Sander and Professor Marie Fox. Her current research is focused on family friendly employment policies, with particular emphasis on maternity and paternity rights.

Research
Gemma researches employment and family law, focusing in particular on how the family is treated in employment law. She is particularly focused on the regulation of parents in employment.
