Peter Rowlett is HE Curriculum Innovation Advisor on the Mathematical Sciences HE Curriculum Innovation Project, part of the Mathematical Sciences Strand of the National HE STEM Programme.
This involves distributing funding and supporting funded projects, research into mathematics HE curriculum (course delivery and design) and dissemination of research findings and staff development.
Peter is also an enthusiastic communicator of mathematics and in his spare time volunteers for the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications, the British Society for the History of Mathematics, co-hosts a mathematics news podcast for science communication project Pulse-Project.org and volunteers as a STEM Ambassador.

Peter Rowlett qualified with a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics from the University of Nottingham in 2002. He worked to set up and develop the service mathematics virtual support environment MELEES at the University of Nottingham before starting an MSc at Nottingham Trent University in computing and multimedia. During his MSc he worked as a consultant to the Council for the Mathematical Sciences MathsCareers.org.uk project.
In 2004 he began working as a developer for the Royal Statistical Society Centre for Statistical Education. He worked as a part time mathematics lecturer for three semesters and worked as University Liaison Officer for the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA), a role which involved giving 72 talks on careers for mathematicians and popular maths topics at 45 university mathematics departments in England, Scotland and Wales over three semesters. Peter also worked in learning technology in mathematics at the University of Nottingham before joining Birmingham in August 2010 to deliver the Mathematical Sciences HE Curriculum Innovation Project, a part of the National HE STEM Programme.
Peter is a member of Council for the British Society for the History of Mathematics, Vice Chair of the IMA East Midlands Branch and Chartership Leader for the IMA Early Career Mathematicians Group. He is organiser of MathsJam Nottingham, co-host of the Math/Maths Podcast for science communication project Pulse-Project.org and a registered STEM Ambassador. He is studying for a PhD in e-assessment in mathematics in his spare time.
The Mathematical Sciences HE Curriculum Innovation Project is supporting work in various areas of the curriculum, including graduate skills, employer involvement in curricula, flexible learning, computer-aided assessment and schools outreach. As well, Peter has been involved in designing and running workshops on graduate skills, technology in teaching, mathematical writing and developing mathematical thinking through problems, puzzles and games.
In addition, a HE Mathematics Curriculum Summit took place in January 2011 to identify current priorities for curriculum development in HE Mathematics programmes. This attracted Heads of Department or their representatives from 26 university mathematics departments (about half those in England and Wales), the professional bodies and some education organisations. Peter edited the Summit report, "HE Mathematics Curriculum Summit".
