About

John is Operational Manager (Educational Technology) in the College of Medical and Dental Sciences and manager of the Educational Technology Team. He provides a leading support role for the design and implementation of technology enhanced learning across the College, and the development of staff and student intraMED portal systems, and manages all other projects within the Team.

Teaching

John is a Personal Mentor for Year 1 and 2 Medicine and Surgery MBChB students, and frequently helps with the facilitation of group work activities for Welcome Week and Student Selected Activity (SSA) Week.

Other activities

  • John has created a web portal, intraMED, to host over 30 applications for students and administrators; these include: absence recording, exam grade publishing, clinical skills passport, module evaluation, assignment submission, placement management and feedback;
  • John has successfully created over 100 online learning tutorials for undergraduate medical, nursing and physiotherapy students;
  • John has presented academic research into technology enhanced learning at University, National and International Conferences.
  • John was awarded a Universitas21 fellowship to investigate the use of lecture recording in Australian universities;
  • John has received over £200k in educational funding from the University Educational Enhancement and Circles of Influence schemes to create online learning resources and blended learning activities.
  • John has helped lead the introduction of various educational technologies into academic courses at the College. These include: SMS, lecture capture, ePortfolios, personal response systems, interactive whiteboards, video recording of clinical simulation
