Craig commenced his working life in 1996 as a Modern Apprentice in Accounting at William King Limited, a large privately owned Steel Stockholders based near West Bromwich.
Craig joined the University as a Junior Accountancy Assistant in the Engineering Finance Team based in the University’s Central Finance Office in June 2000.
In May 2001 Craig was promoted to Accountancy Assistant and administered Finances for the School of Education and the Centre for Lifelong Learning.
During 2002 the Engineering team undertook a restructuring separating the Academic Accounting and Research Finance functions. At this point he became research specific administering research funding for Electronic and Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering, and the Interdisciplinary Research Centre.
In March 2005 Craig joined the European Funding Team as a Senior Accountancy Assistant administering both European Framework and non-Framework Research Funding.
Craig was promoted to Team Leader of the Research Finance European Funding Team in May the following year managing a team of 2 Accountancy Assistants. During this period he represented the University at conferences both in the UK and Abroad, and led the Finance Office into the implementation of European Framework 7 funding. He was also on the team that implemented the fEC Research Accounting System.
In June 2007 Craig moved to the role of Team Leader for Research Finance for the College of Medical and Dental Sciences. Within this role Craig managed a team of 5 Accountancy Assistants. He was responsible for both the Schools of Cancer Sciences, and Health and Population Sciences, including responsibility for all 3 trials units. Craig worked closely with the Governance team looking at processes and improving procedures. He was also a member of the Clinical Trials Admin Working Group implementing admin processes for Clinical Trials auditable by the MHRA.
In February 2013 he joined the Research and Knowledge Transfer Office following a career change from Finance to Research Facilitation. Craig is the Senior Research Facilitator for the School of Health and Population Sciences and is responsible for overseeing all aspects of Research administration for the School. He is a member of the School Executive Committee, the School Research Committee, and the School Executive Management Team. Craig works closely with the Head of School, School Research Leads, and School Manager to support the Research infrastructure within the School. He is also part of the School team working on the Research and Excellence Framework return for the Public Health, Health Services and Primary Care Unit of Assessment.
