Carl is the Senior Technician for Mechanical Engineering. He is a trained safety coordinator and sits on the Mechanical Engineering Safety Committee and the Engineering Safety Committee.
He is the Manager of the University of Birmingham Formula Student Racing Team and he travels with the team to the USA and Australia for international competitions.
He works in the Future power systems group.
Carl has worked for the University for 30 years and has experience in the automotive field, working for companies such as Jaguar, MG Rover, Rolls Royce, Land Rover and many component supply companies.
His main area of work is in the electro-hydraulic structural testing field and he also works with noise vibration and harshness measuring equipment.
He runs and maintains the tri-axial tyre testing and damper testing machines, the four-post vehicle ride simulator and the six-axis simulator.
He works with the Engineering Education Scheme.
Runs laboratory experiments for ‘Head Start’ and ‘Insight’.
Runs up to 5 work experience placements a year.
Is the Chemical Safety Advisor for Man/Mech
Runs undergraduate laboratory experiments on engines, dampers, tensile test pieces and the flame speed of propane.
He does sponsorship work with the Institute of Mechanical Engineers for the University Racing Team.
He mentors students on trips to Coniston outward bounds centre.
He also works on the Admissions team.
