Dr. Chunlei Qiu is a Research Fellow in Advanced Materials Processing. He received his PhD in metallurgy and materials science from the University of Birmingham in 2010. Following his PhD, he worked as a research fellow in the Advanced Materials Processing Group (AMPLab) at the Department of Metallurgy and Materials at the University of Birmingham.
His research over the past six years has been focused on net-shape manufacturing of Ni-based superalloys and Ti-based alloys for aerospace structures and components using Net-shape Hot Isostatic Pressing, Selective Laser Melting and Direct Laser Fabrication, studying the microstructural evolution, process-microstructure-property relationship, materials deformation and fracture mechanisms and structural integrity associated with these processes. His current research activities mainly focus on laser fabrication of Ti-based alloys.
