John Veitch is a researcher in the gravitational physics group, working on gravitational wave searches and parameter estimation for compact binary systems. John has been active in the LIGO and Virgo experiments since 2003, where he has developed novel methods of data analysis to measure the properties of compact binaries and probe General Relativity. Since 2015 John has co-chaired the collaboration’s compact binaries working group.

John Veitch received his MSci in Physics from the University of Glasgow before obtaining a PhD in Astronomy with the Institute for Gravitational Research at Glasgow. He went on to postdoctoral research in Birmingham, Cardiff and Amsterdam, before returning to Birmingham with an STFC Ernest Rutherford Fellowship in 2014.
