Ann trained as a psychiatric social worker and is a registered social worker in residential, hospital and community based services. She is a Trustee of Birmingham MIND, a member of the RETHINK advice services advisory group and Suresearch, a Midlands based network of mental health service users/survivors and their allies.
Ann is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences and an honorary member of the Senate of the Faculty of Social Work, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia.
She is on the editorial boards of the journals, 'Disability and Society'; 'Gateways and the Russian Journal of Social Policy'.
