Lesley Phillpots is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences. Her research interests focus upon public policy for PE, school sport and sport. She is currently writing and publishing a range of articles that focus upon the governance of sport, the work of County Sport Partnerships, public policy for PE and School Sport and the life histories of female PGA golf teaching professionals.  Lesley has written book chapters on youth sport development in the UK and partnership approaches to the delivery of youth sport and physical education. In addition she has published papers on the policy process for physical education and school sport, sport policy and ‘new governance’ and managing diversity in sport pedagogy.

Lesley teaches primarily on the B Sc Sport PE and Coaching Science course and is one of three Welfare Tutors for the School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitiation Sciences.

Lesley is the module organiser for the Year 1 Introduction to Sport Policy and Management module; the Year 2 Sport Development module; the Year 1 Outdoor and Adventurous Activities module and Year 3 Dissertation module. She also lectures on the Year 3 Politics of Sport module. Lesley will also be teaching on the new MSc Sport Policy and Business Management course. 

Postgraduate supervision

She is involved in the supervision of dissertation and Masters students and has been an Internal PhD supervisor. Lesley also co supervises PhD students.

  • Politics, sport and physical education.
  • Governance and partnerships in sport and school sport and physical education.
  • Sport policy: County Sport Partnerships, School Sport Partnerships and the NGBs of Sport.
  • Sports coaching (in particular life story research of into female sports coaches)
