Research facilities

Research facilitiesWe lead the field in many of the emerging disciplines of the 21st century and can support research in areas such as hydrogen vehicle technology, nanotechnology, gene therapy, robotics, and the use of virtual reality in archaeology.

Some of our facilities are unique and form part of the distinctive University of Birmingham experience; they include:

  • A rotating drum machine for adding ‘interesting’ flavourings to crisps
  • Glass-blowing facilities for the production of bespoke and standard scientific glassware
  • A health research bus to take clinical research into the community

Our many exciting facilities are primarily used to support our research and teaching activity; although some equipment can be used by industry and other research partners.
