The online application for accommodation for all presessional students due to attend the 20, 15, 10, 6 and 3 week course is now open.
All students attending the summer Presessional course who wish to live in University accommodation will need to complete an online accommodation application and make sure you select the presessonal classification.
20 and 15 week presessional students
Please note that the availability of University self catering accommodation is very limited at this time of year so you will be allocated a room in a flat where there is a vacancy. The approximate accommodation fee for this period will range between £90 for a flat with shared facilities to £172 per week for an ensuite meal plan room.
In addition to this we do have a number of modern self contained studio apartments located at Pritchatts Road, Metchley Hall and Mason within easy walking distance of the University with prices from £176.00. You will receive your offer of accommodation before you arrive after you have submitted your online application.

If we can offer you a postgraduate room, the contract will run until 31st August 2013. Once you have received your offer you will be required to make an online payment in full to secure your accommodation for this academic year. By accepting the contract you are agreeing to stay in and pay for the accommodation you have been allocated until the end of the contract. If you wish to stay in University accommodation for the academic year 2013/2014 after your Presessional course you must submit a 2nd application form for the academic year 2013-2014. The accommodation pre-payment will be £550 for 2013 /2014.You can apply using our online accommodation application form selecting the either postgraduate or undergraduate depending on your course.

If you are allocated into accommodation where the contract ends on 5th July 2013 you will be required to pay in full for your accommodation before you arrive . On 5th July we will then where possible move you to accommodation for the remainder of your presessional course (This means that you will stay in this accommodation until September 2013). During the period 9th July – 18th September the cost of the accommodation will be £115 per week , which includes a twice weekly clean to the communal areas ) If you wish to stay in University accommodation for the academic year 2013/2014 after your Presessional course ends ,you must submit a 2nd application form. The accommodation pre-payment will be £550 for 2013 /2014. The cost of the accommodation for this academic year will be as published on our website and does not include any cleaning. However, you can buy into a cleaning package. You can apply using our online accommodation application form selecting the 2013/2014 Academic session.

10, 6 and 3 week Presessional students
For 10, 6 and 3 week Presessional students you will also need to complete an online accommodation application and make sure you select the presessional 2013 academic session.
10, 6 and 3 week Presessional students will be primarily allocated accommodation at Pritchatts Park Village in Ashcroft or Spinney; however, accommodation sites may change according to demand. The cost of a room with shared facilities at Ashcroft andSpinney will be approximately £115.00 per week which also includes a twice weekly clean. Included in your accommodation fee will be bedding and basic crockery and cutlery for the use of all students in the kitchens.
In addition to this we do have a number of modern self contained studio apartments located at Pritchatts Road, Metchley Hall and Mason within easy walking distance of the University with prices starting from £176.00.
If you require accommodation for your academic course beginning in September you will will need to complete a second online application selecting academic year 2013 – 2014 at the same time as you complete your 2012- 2013 online application form for your presessional accommodation.
Once you have received your offer of accommodation for your presessional course you will be required to make a payment in full for the accommodation . During your Presessional course you will then be sent a 2nd contract for your accommodation from September 2013 . You will be required to make a pre-payment of £550 to secure the accommodation. This amount will then be deducted from the balance of your accommodation fee.

Q: How can I apply for accommodation ?
A: You can apply for accommodation at our apply online page.
You will need your University of Birmingham student ID number which is found at the top of the offer letter sent to you within your offer pack
Q: I haven’t received my validation code/ I have forgotten my password
A: If you have not received your validation code please contact us and we can supply you with it. If you have forgotten your password please follow the instructions on the request new password page in the apply online section to request a new one. When registering in the apply online section we recommend that you sign up with the email address you are likely to check the most. Please do not sign up with your school email address, as this account is usually shut down once you leave school. Please make sure you check your junk folder as our emails may inadvertently end up there.
Q: What is included in the price?
A: The accommodation fee includes all heating, lighting, internet access, internal telephone calls from your room to other rooms in University accommodation and University extensions as well as a basic room insurance. For presessional students on the 10, 6 and 3 week course you will receive bedding in your room and the use of crockery and cutlery in the kitchen.

Q: How far is the accommodation from the University?
A: All University owned accommodation is within a 15 -20 minute walk of the university campus.
Q: If I have a disability will this be taken into consideration when I apply for accommodation?
A: Yes we always take into consideration any disability or medical issue you may have. We often require a referral from the Disability Support team to confirm this so please contact them at www.as.bham.ac.uk/studentlife/disability or telephone +44(0)121 414 5130. Alternatively, you can provide a doctor's note which details your condition and what this means for your accommodation needs. We have a number of adapted rooms for those in wheelchairs, with hearing impairments and visual impairments. Q: Do you have accommodation suitable for families / couples?
A: For couples we have studios and apartments in the university accommodation. For families we recommend that you look in the private sector. Birmingham Studentpad is a good place to start or contact the LIVING team on 0121 414 8000 or email Pgradaccom@bham.ac.uk . Please note University accommodation is not suitable for families.
Q: Can I cancel my accommodation and get a refund?
A: Once you have accepted your offer of accommodation and made payment you will only be released from your contract if another student can be allocated to your room. If another student cannot be found you are liable for the full payment.
Q: Where do I report any damage or repairs in my flat?
A: Your accommodation will be cleaned and inspected prior to your arrival but if you have a problem please report it as soon as you move into your accommodation. You should contact your site reception with any repairs or problems you have . The telephone number for your site reception can be found on the notice board in your room.
Q: Where should I go if I have a query about my accommodation once I arrive?
Accommodation services have an office in University Centre called LIVING. We have staff there Monday –Friday 9.00am – 5.00pm who can answer all of your accommodation queries. Alternatively you can email us at pgradaccom@bham.ac.uk and we will aim to respond to your email within 2 working days.
Private Sector Accommodation
Q: Where can I find information about accommodation in the private sector?
A: You can find a list of landlords who advertise with the University on our student pad website at www.birminghamstudentpad.co.uk. We recommend that you do not sign any contract or make any payment for accommodation in the private sector before you arrive. Alternatively if you have a query please contact us at Pgradaccom@bham.ac.uk.

Q: Can you check my contract for me before I sign it?
A: Yes, a contract is a legal document and we strongly recommend that you bring your contract in to our office to be checked even if it is from a reputable company. We will be able to point out any important information about charges, what is expected of you as a tenant and what rights you have regarding your landlord. We do recommend that you always view the property before you sign a contract.
Q: If I have an problem with my landlord what do I do?
A: When sorting out any issues yourself make sure to put any requests/complaints in writing to your landlord. If you continue to have problems or your landlord does not respond please come to the LIVING shop in University Centre and we can assist you further.
