Utilities
Your residence fee includes the following utility charges: heating, electricity and water. Our properties are automatically exempt from Council Tax.
Telephones
All University study bedrooms have a telephone, which can be used to receive incoming calls and make free internal calls across campus. Students can purchase top up cards to make external calls.
Broadband
All University bedrooms have access to the University’s high speed campus network and internet access. Further information will be included in your offer pack.
Security
Student security on and around campus is of paramount importance. All University accommodation is equipped with CCTV and our Security Centre is open 24 hours a day. In addition, a police office is stationed in the centre of campus and the University has its own community police officer
Personal possessions insurance
The University provides basic insurance cover for some of your belongings while they are in accommodation. It is important that you check your insurance policy with our provider (information will be included in your offer pack when your accommodation is confirmed) and ensure that all items that are of value to you are covered. If not, then you may need to add items to your policy.
Launderettes and cleaning
All three student villages have coin or token-operated launderettes available 24 hours a day. You will need to provide your own bedding and be responsible for its laundering. You can purchase a bedding pack from your accommodation site office. Each pack contains a duvet, pillow, bed sheet, duvet cover and pillow case.
Your room will be cleaned once before the start of the autumn term.
You will be responsible for keeping your room, bathroom, kitchen, dining area and hallway clean and tidy during occupancy. Communal areas will be cleaned (stairwells, launderettes etc) around your site on a regular basis. All rooms are inspected once per term.
Our mentors are University students who are specially trained to give you support throughout your stay at University. They work as part of a team located in each hall of residence and you can be assured that someone is on call every night, should you or a friend need their help. A student mentor will visit you in your hall every couple of weeks to provide you with plenty of useful information.
For more information see the student mentor scheme page.
