Managing your money is one of the most important things you will learn as a student. Knowing that your finances are under control will allow you to relax and enjoy your time at Birmingham.
For UK students, your student loan and perhaps a maintenance grant, scholarship or part-time job will support you while you are at university. When budgeting, you need to take into account both tuition fees and living costs.
Learning to manage finances is a particularly important part of being a student, especially when you are away from your home country. The University has a Student Funding Office on hand to provide you with financial advice and support throughout your studies. The University also offers a range of scholarships, grants and bursaries for undergraduate students, which we would advise you to explore.
Financial capability workshops
The Student Funding Office will be running two workshops which will cover the basics of financial management and budgeting. Information on how to make the most of your bank account and credits cards will also be provided along with practical hints and tips on making your money go further and what support is available to you.
The two workshops available are 'Managing your money' (Wednesday 13 March) and 'Keeping track of your finances' (Wednesday 20 March). Both workshops will be taking place in room UG10 in the Learning Centre and are free to attend.
If you are a registered PSA student, you can claim five points for each workshop you attend. You must register for these workshops; places will be reserved on a first-come first-serve basis. To sign up please email sfo@contacts.bham.ac.uk stating which workshop you are interested in attending. You are welcome to attend both workshops.
