Practical Workplace Ergonomics Short Course

Summary

This three-day course will help you to develop a more thorough understanding of the needs of the worker in work systems, and evaluate the workplace and the impact poor workplace and workplace design can have on employees. The course has been awarded 16 CPD points from the Faculty of Occupational Medicine, London.

Programme overview

This course is for individuals with an interest in ergonomics but specifically for those involved in occupational health, including physicians, nurses and physiotherapists. You will obtain a better understanding of the needs of the human in work systems and through this, improve efficiency in maintaining ‘good health at work’.

Programme content

Day 1

Ergonomics Principles, Anthropometry and Workplace Design. Aims are to:

  • Understand ergonomic principles 
  • Gain practical experience in using anthropometric data to design work equipment
  • Gain practical experience in assessing an office workplace

Day 2

Musculoskeletal Disorders and Workplace Risk Assessment Tools. Aims are to:

  • Understand that work-relevant upper limb pain is a multi-factorial problem 
  • Improve confidence in when and how to intervene for primary, secondary and tertiary prevention
  • Be able to carry out a RULA assessment and have a good understanding of QEC and REBA including their applications

Day 3

Case Management in practice. Aims are to:

  • Present and receive feedback on a video-based ergonomic assessment
  • Gain insight into the practical application of ergonomics in NHS and industrial settings 
  • Present and receive feedback on cases submitted by delegates (Delegates will be given the opportunity to present and discuss a workplace ergonomics case that they have encountered)

Assessment

You have the opportunity (optional) to submit a report on a workplace assessment within six weeks of attending the course. Delegates who achieve the pass mark of 50% will receive recognition from the Ergonomics Society.
