Suitable candidates for the PhD/MSc by Research can register on the basis of either full or part time study in a range of physiotherapy related topics. As a research student you have opportunities to interact with other researchers from a wide range of academic disciplines. Within the School our postgraduate researchers have access to a variety of postgraduate courses to support the development of research skills.

Our research focuses on the development of research in key themtic areas that reflect the interests of our staff.

Duration: PhD – 3 years full-time, 6 years part-time; MSc by Research – 1 year full-time, 2 years part-time

Start date: Research degrees may start at any time of the year, though for most this will be September 2012

  • Musculoskeletal physiotherapy (particularly: low back pain; lumbar disectomy; lumbar fusion; and, Whiplash Associated Disorders) and Professional development for musculoskeletal physiotherapists.

Employability

Following graduation, Postgraduate Researchers in the College MDS gain employment in a variety of areas though with a majority continuing in research, mostly in Academia but also in the Health,  Pharmaceutical, and Biotechnology sectors.  Others pursue careers in Education, Publishing, Intellectual Property Protection, Technology Innovation, Business, and more besides.
