This programme is suitable for doctors, nurses and any other health care professionals aiming to acquire specialised skills and qualifications in primary and community care; for example covering all dimensions required in line with the NHS Knowledge and Skills Framework.

Study Options: Full time, part time

Duration: 1 year full-time, 2 years part-time, 5 years flexible. Tuition will mostly be in blocks of one week.

Start date: October. The application deadline is the end of July however late applications may be considered if places are still available.

The programme is aimed at providing all primary health care professionals, with skills and academic requirements for specialist clinical practice within the community as well as research skills and health service evaluation.

This course is suitable for experienced doctors, doctors in training, community and practice based nurses, pharmacists and any other health care professionals aiming to acquire specialised skills and qualifications in primary and community care.

Why study this course

The programme is unique in that it combines both academic and clinical aspects of community and primary care and, as such, would provide a clinically applicable higher level of academic achievement. The clinical modules will offer academic and professional accreditation through recognised professional bodies.

English language requirements

You can satisfy our English language requirements in two ways:

English to IELTS 7.0 (with a minimum of 6.5 in each component) or TOEFL Internet based 95 overall with no less than 22 in any band.

Learning and teaching

As a Birmingham student, you will be joining the academic elite and will have the privilege of learning from world-leading experts, as well as your peers. This is a modular programme with teaching methods including formal lectures, group work, case studies and practical workshops. Please note that modules will only be run if a viable number of students enrol.

You will have access to a comprehensive support system that will assist and encourage you, including personal tutors and welfare tutors who can help with both academic and welfare issues.

Assessment methods

Assessment on the Clinical Primary and Community Care Masters programme include: MCQ exams, case studies and assessment in practice.
