In this module you are introduced to the key policy strategies and structure of national health dentistry delivery, which influence the nature of general dental practice in the UK. The relative nature of different types of practice - PDS, GDS, Corporate, Private & Community - are reviewed and critically assessed in terms of their capacity to respond to changing patterns of disease, including the impact of social factors and associated changing patterns of treatment. In addition the role of the dental team in ensuring effective patient treatment is considered. Factors which influence the evolution of government policy in relation to dentistry are considered. Factors influencing caries incidence, and contemporary methods of treatment for this, will be discussed.
