The primary aim of this course is to develop advanced and critical understanding of the nature of communicable diseases and non-communicable environmental hazards, and enable the you to develop strategies for appropriate interventions.
Describe the nature, distribution, extent, public health impact and appropriate interventions of key communicable and non-communicable health issues in UK including: major communicable diseases such as tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and Health care associated infections; environmental inequalities; children’s environmental health; ionising and non-ionising radiation; climate change, and; occupational health and safety. The module will also provide a broad appreciation of key concepts related to environmental public health tracking including: surveillance of hazards, exposures and health outcomes and the integration and analysis of key data to identify effective interventions; health impact assessment, and; an understand the utility of GIS in the management of communicable diseases and non-communicable hazards.
