This module aims to provide accredited certification and validation of competencies for health care professionals involved in Cardiovascular prevention and management in the community. The training is aimed at health professionals working in the community required to develop competencies to an advanced level.
The course has been produced to offer a systematic understanding of knowledge, and how to apply this to practice, a critical awareness of current problems and management issues and an understanding of new insights into the area of cardiovascular disease prevention and management. It will also provide skills to enable autonomous practice in dealing with more complex problems and unpredictable situations and the ability to critically evaluate current research in the field of cardiovascular disease and associated conditions. An independent learning process will allow you to continue to advance your knowledge and understanding of cardiovascular disease.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the module the student should be able to:
1) Demonstrate a conceptual and systematic understanding of the theory and demonstrate ability to deal with complex issues underpinning cardiovascular disease prevention and management in primary care;
2) Evaluate critically the management of cardiovascular disease, prevention of long term complications according to current guidelines, including secondary causes, risk calculation and management.
i) The aetiology, patho physiology and presentation of cardiovascular disease
ii) The diagnosis and classification of cardiovascular disease based on current information.
3) Explain the roles of the multidisciplinary team in cardiovascular disease care to improve health outcomes (as recommended in relevant national policy documents)
4) Manage cardiovascular disease in primary care safely and effectively using the practical competencies acquired, systematically dealing with complex issues
5) Understand the requirements of clinical governance for cardiovascular disease management, developing audit tools and performance indicators to ensure services are being delivered to an acceptable standard; identifying gaps in knowledge or standards and, if necessary, establishing techniques for implementing changes to practice.
