This module provides an introduction to the assessment and management of co-occurring mental illness and substance misuse. It will be taught by clinicians practising in the field, and pharmacological, psychological and social strategies for managing co-occurring problems will be covered. The teaching will be based on the Cognitive-Behavioural Integrated Treatment (C-BIT) approach, an evidence-based treatment programme developed in Birmingham. You will practice simple clinical strategies with cases in your own practice, and be encouraged to discuss the results in small group clinical supervision sessions.
