Course Overview
This 7 day series of Mental Health Courses is aimed at GP’s, practice nurses and primary care mental health workers who have an interest in developing an enhanced understanding of mental health care in the community.

The programme will run as 7 distinct themes and these days can be attended individually as one day CPD workshops. If you attend all 7 days and complete the assessment following the course this forms an MSc module worth 20 credits.

  • Day One - Common Mental Health problems – Affective disorders and mental wellbeing
  • Day Two – Common Mental Health problems – Mental distress (alcohol misuse, dual diagnosis, medically unexplained symptoms and work related mental health problems) 
  • Day Three – Up-skilling primary health care practitioners to manage more complex mental health cases (ADHD in young adults, mental health problems in people with learning disabilities, maternal mental health and mental health in secure environments)
  • Day Four – Children and young people’s mental health and wellbeing 
  • Day Five –Serious mental illness (SMI): Psychosis, chronic psychotic illness, Bipolar Affective Disorder (BAD) and recovery
  • Day Six – Psychological trauma (survivors of war, sexual assault and sexual abuse) management and support in primary care
  • Day Seven – Older adults’ mental health in primary care
