The practice of public health medicine usually takes place within some form of health service, and it is important that students working towards an MPH have a thorough understanding of how such health services work, both in theory and in practice. This module, which is a compulsory part of both the MPH (generic) and the MPH (health protection), is intended to offer you just such training. The module begins by finding a common starting point among a mixture of previous experience, and then begins a carefully assembled set of sessions that commence with managing oneself and works outwards to interpersonal and group interactions and from there to organisations. This part of the course is followed by studying how organisations relate to each other, and how they work in partnership to achieve common aims. Finally the module reviews the wider influences that political and social forces exert on individuals and organisations and how these forces can be influenced or managed.
