The main topics are: the institutions governing world trade and European trade; recent models of imperfectly competitive trade and trade policy; the effects of trade on growth and growth of trade; the effects of international capital movements; theory and evidence concerning trade blocs; EU economic integration; theory of protection and rent-seeking.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this module the student will be able to demonstrate: an understanding of the policy significance of recent models of trade with imperfect competition, trade and growth and international factor migration; knowledge of recent developments in international trade blocs and their policy significance, and international trade policy options facing the European Union.
