The course comprises two classes: prose (English-Russian translation) and aural translation (Russian-English). Translation into and out of Russian is practised in written work done at home and in group discussion, where common problems are analysed and model versions presented. As an aid to improving students' Russian style, Russian texts on the same subject as forthcoming English-Russian translation are studied. Both classes include extempore translations. The aural translation course is WebCT-based.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this module the student will be able to translate accurately into and out of Russian in appropriate registers
