The University of Birmingham offers a wide range of scholarships that are available to support postgraduate study. Some of these scholarships are subject-specific and are covered in the school section of this guide, but there are also a number of centrally administered awards available.
General eligibility and nomination
Applications cannot be made directly for these awards; candidates need to be nominated by their school or department. If you are interested and fit the eligibility criteria, please speak to the postgraduate administrator within your school, or your admissions tutor. Nominations are open from mid-March prior to the start of the academic term and close at the end of May.
All scholarships listed below are offered subject to available funds, and are open to both EU and international students in addition to home students, unless otherwise stated.
Please note that all awards listed below are tenable for one year only and, subject to available funds, will cover the home rate of postgraduate tuition fee in addition to offering a maintenance stipend set at research council levels.
