Our understanding of the world around us is fundamentally shaped by the way that our body interacts with different kinds of spaces. This module critically explores these interactions through a variety of different theoretical lenses, particularly discipline, resistance and the abject. Students are required to undertake four fieldwork exercises which seek make the everyday seem strange, from walking backwards to navigating at random through the city. These field activities will form the basis of the coursework for this module, which asks for a portfolio critically examining the work undertaken in the field. Specific lectures will cover topics including emotions, mapping, art, the senses, the virtual and the carnivalesque.
